Working closely with a React Native developer and product manager, I designed a mobile app for conference-goers to use to plan their days and stay up-to-date with real-time notifications at the first Mapbox conference, Locate.
ux design, visual design, mobile
During the end of 2017, Mapbox decided that they wanted to host a conference the following year. As part of this initiative they wanted a mobile conference app to help our customers plan their day, get real-time notifications, and showcase some of its products.
I was asked to lead the design of this app. We started off with a list of must haves and nice to haves from the product manager. I took the must haves and sketched out the flow of the app and the quickly moved to a clickable prototype based on the conference’s visual brand. From there we met weekly to do a design critique and talk about development progress.
We wanted to launch the app early to do some internal testing, but we were met with a number of technical challenges and a last-minute rebranding. We were able to launch in May 2018, right before the conference, on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. In the end, we made it easy for the conference's 1,159 attendees to schedule their sessions, get real-time updates, and give us feedback.
